“Blessers must stay away,” says Ramaphosa

The Mopani District Municipality hosted the seventh Youth Development And Career Expo, at the Nkowankowa Stadium on Saturday.

Over 100 exhibitors honoured the occasion including Exxarro, Fasset, University of Limpopo, Eskom and National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

Learners and their teachers from all around the district came in numbers to the occasion dressed in their school uniforms.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the multitude of learners at the Expo and encouraged them to work hard at school and to create their own legacy through education.

Ramaphosa added that he is tired of young South Africans who are lost at sea and not knowing what to do with their own lives

“Young women, you are too valuable to be donated to the blessers, hence we say #BlessersMustFall and these men must stay away from our girls,” said the deputy president.

Some of the dignitaries who attended the event were Buti Manamela, deputy minister in the Presidency, Onicah Moloi, MEC of Sports, Arts and Culture in Limpopo, Ishmael Kgetjepe, MEC for Education in Limpopo and Maripe Mangena, Greater Tzaneen Municipality Mayor.

Exxarro had 200 bursaries available for Grade 12 students and NSFAS gave the learners a chance to apply for funding and they took their forms with them to Capetown to be processed immediately.

“We urge other learners to still apply for funding by downloading the forms on our website by November 30,” said Xolani Gobela, NSFAS Project Manager of Public and Outreach.

Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Mduduzi Manana, encouraged learners who are not academically gifted to apply at Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) because their skills are also needed in boosting the country’s economy.
