Tzaneen: Mob kills murder suspect over weekend

The police in Tzaneen are investigating three cases of murder one of which is mob justice related and the other two are liquor related.

The three incidents happened between Friday night and Saturday morning at Ga-Sekgopo village, outside Modjiadjiskloof and at Relela village outside Tzaneen.

“It is alleged that on Friday at about 23:30 the deceased Aubrey Maribatse  27 years old was trying to stop people who were fighting when he was subsequently stabbed with a sharp object on the chest and was certified dead on arrival at the Clinic,” said Lieutenant General Malesela.

The mob justice incident took on Friday morning village where community members gathered and started tracing the alleged killers instead of informing the Police.

“The Ga-Sekgopo community caught a 29 year-old man and assaulted him with various objects until the Police arrived and rescued him, it was too late when the police arrived at the scene as he was certified dead on arrival at the local clinic,” he further stated.

Meanwhile in Relela village outside Tzaneen, a 29 year-old Joseph Mhlongo was stabbed to death at a tavern in the early hours of Monday morning.
