More than 67 minutes

The South African Breweries Tzaneen depot Staff gave more than 67 minutes on Mandela Day on July 18.

It was a day to remember for the students of Nhlengeleti Primary School in Nwamitwa Limpopo.

The SAB team decided to pay the school a visit in one of four Mandela Day initiatives.

Food security is a challenge in South Africa, especially in rural communities.

SAB had a busy day on Mandela day. From left to right is Denzil Haynes, Depot Manager SAB Tzaneen, Principal Makhubele Florence Khensani from Nhlengeleti Primary school and Shirley da Silva, the customer service controller for SAB Tzaneen. Absent: Paul van den Berg from BEKMAR Irrigation.

This challenge is further exacerbated by the worst drought in over 100 years.

This is why SAB, in partnership with BEKMAR irrigation planted a vegetable garden and installed a drip Irrigation system at the school.

Through this initiative it is hoped that the school will be able to produce a bigger and better yield of crops that will ultimately lead to healthier and better performing students

Planting a vegetable garden and installing a drip irrigation system is hard work but the staff discovered a saying that reads; “we don’t quit when we are tired, we quit when the job is done”.

In this spirit, staff members then visited the kids of 2 drop in centres in Lenyenye and Sasekani Villages and donated blankets and grocery vouchers.

It was a truly satisfying and rewarding experience for SAB staff when they witnessed the unbridled joy exhibited by the kids when they received their gifts.

The last place to be visited was Reatlegile Drop in centre.

They received a donation of groceries and building material to complete an ablution block which was needed for the children at the drop in centre.
