HOEDSPRUIT: ‘Muddy’ the rhino saved from mud

A two week old baby rhino, named Muddy, was adopted by the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC) last Wednesday after he got stuck in mud and was abandoned by his family.

It is believed his family left him behind after they could not free him from the mud.

“After cleaning him up and warming him up again he was much better and already drank his first bottle that afternoon. Muddy is definitely a very strong boy,” according to Linri Janse van Rensburg who works at HESC.

In the last month, Muddy, was the third baby rhino HESC has taken in.

Linri also said that Olivia and Nhlanhla are both doing very well and have become friends now.

Both are still drinking bottle and picking up weight which is very good.

Scott Atherstone from Tzaneen sponsored a Pedi sheep.

According to the HESC facebook page, the mother sheep is in quarantine for a few days as precautionary measure before she will be introduced to Muddy. the sheep will be use as Muddys’ foster mom.

‘She’ has not been named yet.
