Another baby rhino joins HESC

Hoedspruit's Endangered Species Centre ( HESC) this week welcomed yet another young orphaned rhino bull into their fold, and Lammie the sheep, mother-extraordinaire, was brought in.

A field guide on one of their neighbouring properties noticed the baby being rejected by his mother, and she would repeatedly push him away as he tried to get close to her to suckle.

It is unknown what caused this behaviour but without human intervention, the little one had no chance of surviving and he was brought to HESC for immediate and urgent care.

The wonderful team at HESC took acceptance of an exhausted, dehydrated and emaciated baby.

At the moment they are hard at work trying to re-hydrate him, and he’s responding well to bottle feeding.

Lammie the sheep, mother-extraordinaire, was brought in this morning.

The two haven’t been well acquainted yet, as the young rhino has spent most of the time sleeping.

Keep checking our Letaba Herald Facebook page for more updates as the newest member of the HESC family’s journey unfolds.
