Health workers in Tzaneen say enough is enough

Health workers at the Tzaneen Bus Stop Clinic downed tools on Monday afternoon in protest against the clinic supervisor.

They demanded the removal of the clinic’s supervisor, Phillipine Mashele with immediate effect.

In a memorandum of grievances submitted to the representative of district management workers accused Mashele of victimization of staff, forcing staff to dispatch expired medicine, critizising their union , insulting staff in front of patients and many more.

The workers say they have tolerated enough mistreatment and they have had enough. “We want Mashele to be removed,” they said.

They chanted songs directed at her, holding placards with messages like “Management causes friction within our staff”, “We are tired, enough is enough”.

Regional secretary for the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) which represent the majority of workers, Mcdonald Sebeya read out the memorandum before handing it over to the representatives of the district office of the Department of Health.

He said Mashele must know that she is dealing with an elephant and she is just a tortoise.

The district officials were given 14 working days to respond to the memorandum.

Iganatius Sekgobela from the district office said they will forward the memorandum to the relevant authorities to give response within the time frame given.
