Phalaborwa learners find solutions of fighting crime

Police in Phalaborwa conducted a successful junior leadership programme recently, at the Foskor Moshate Boardroom. Learners from various schools including Frans du Toit High School, Meridian College, and Kingfisher Private School, accompanied by their teachers, participated in the programme with the head of Support Services, Lt Col Friday Baloyi, welcoming the learners.

Learners were asked to choose a topic from three given topics and present it to an independent panel of judges from the departments of Social Development, Education and Spiritual Crime Prevention. The outgoing junior station commander, Pieter Oosthuizen, addressed the participants and encouraged them to do well and wished the winners success at the district and provincial competitions.

The winners were Musa Motloutsi from Kingfisher and Zune de Wet from Frans du Toit (junior station commander); Rikhotso Khenso from Frans du Toit (junior Vispol commander); Baloyi Faith Frans du Toit (junior detective commander); Matchete Kabelo from Meridian (junior head of support). “The competition was highly contested and the judges struggled to name an overall winner, hence a tie between the two top learners were accepted by the audience.

“Winners were awarded medals, trophies and certificates as well as gift packages,” said Sgt Elvis Mongwe, spokesperson. The event was concluded by a message of support from the principal personnel officer, Joseph Mtileni. “The fight against crime affecting young people by implementing programmes that are aimed at equipping them with knowledge to participate in the fight against crime, remains a priority in Phalaborwa,” said Mongwe.
