Big win for the u13 scorpions
Scorpion FC U13 boys won 3-1 against Giyani Athletico during the Greater Giyani Local Football Association (GGLFA) league match played at Xikukwani on Saturday.
The win will see the Scorpions move from fifth to fourth or third position depending on how the other teams fare. The league is currently led by Giyani Classic Academy FC with 16 points out of six games, followed by Ngula-ya-vutivi FC with 13 points out of six games. The rest of the teams in positions three to five have 12 points each out of six games. This could easily see the Scorpions in the second position if the three teams in front lose or draw their next games.
Scorpion’s triumph is not a surprise considering they are trained by veteran coach Gezani Mashaba who is also the head of Youth Football Development at GGLFA. Mashaba says he hopes the boys can continue to play football at various levels around the country. He says he is currently in conversation with former Orlando Pirates’ defender, Mbulelo “Old John” Mabizela. Mabizela is an assistant coach for the AmaZulu U13 development team.

Their discussion is centered around the adoption of some of the Scorpion boys to the AmaZulu team. Mabizela is said to have seen the boys play in a video on social media and developed an interest in them. He apparently wants to include some of the boys in his development team with the aim of incorporating them into their main squad. “With him, they stand a better chance of furthering their football careers.
This is because they already have a team playing at the PSL level that can absorb them when they mature to a certain stage in their careers.” Mashaba says the plan to include some of the boys in AmaZulu’s development has not been confirmed yet hence he has not informed the parents yet. “I don’t want a situation where I notify the parents about this and then the next thing the plan fails. I want everything to be confirmed first before I notify their parents,” he said.
