Excitement rises for upcoming Tzaneen Rally

Motorsport lovers will be happy to know that the date for the NTT Tzaneen Rally has been set for August 25-26.

Fans must brace themselves for a thrilling two days of racing with rounds 5 and 6 of the South African National Rally Championship taking place. Registrations will open soon for drivers who want to take on the mountain roads of Tzaneen and surrounding areas. The various stages of the event will also be finalised in the near future by the organising committee.

Local drivers such as Theuns Joubert and Eric de Jager are among those who will be taking on the challenge. De Jager told the Herald that preparations for the upcoming race are going well, and he is hoping to do better than last year. He is currently preparing his Subaru Impreza 2000 for the rally and is waiting on parts to get his car race ready. Joubert and Schalk van Heerden (navigator), the 2021 overall Motorsport South Africa Rally champions in the NRC Class, are hoping to redeem themselves in August.

“We are working hard to take the pole position  because if we don’t do well, we will be out of the competition for the rest of the year,” Joubert explained. Last year’s NTT Tzaneen Rally was described as one of the best organised events in the country. This was according to Ivan Saayman, secretary of the Tzaneen rally committee. “The feedback that I received from the drivers and the crews was that last year’s Tzaneen Rally was one of the best events they have ever attended,” Saayman said.
