Don’t miss the ‘lekker’ Mopani Arts Festival
The much anticipated inaugural Mopani Arts Festival started on Wednesday, July 5, and it will run until Saturday, July 8 at the Showgrounds in Tzaneen.
A highlight of the festival is a play by Dramatics @ Ben Vorster Drama Academy with the title, Versplinterde Weerkaatsings. It was written by Lize Malan and is on stage on Friday at 10:00 at the Showgrounds. For visual arts lovers, the organisers have pulled together an array of local artists including Anne Marie Theron, Christof Meyer, Natasha Wiid, Zoë Jacobs, Tiaan Jordaan, Cecilia Fourie, Robyn Coetzee, Peter Parrish, and Annatje Coetzer.
The Limpopo Heritage Collection and Tzaneen Museum will be presenting its acclaimed storytelling exhibition. Make sure you do not miss out on the shows at 11:00 and 17:45 daily. Stories include folklore such as ‘Miss Hyena Asking for a Job’ and ‘Makanjo the Cannibal’, as well as ‘The Power of the Bee’ and ‘The Story Where Hare Make Hippo and Elephant Work’.

For music lovers, there will be entertainment galore. Festivalgoers can look forward to seeing singers such as Liennekke Malan, Danny Shade, André Visagie, Zoë Jacobs, and Tino on stage. Others include Doringdraad, Nantus van der Nest, Ewoud Ayers and Roogie Zelloit. On Friday Nicholas Louw will be on the stage at 21:00 and on Saturday local talent, Hanco will perform at 19:15.
Rick Blaze will close at 20:30. Meanwhile, there will also be entertainment for kids and good food to be enjoyed. The gates open at 09:00 daily and day tickets are R120 for adults, R80 for high school learners, R60 for primary school learners and pre-schoolers are free. Ticket prices for all four days are R400 for adults, R250 for high school learners, and R150 for primary school learners. Pre-schoolers are free of charge.
