Help raise funds for hospital fees after R40 accident

A Hoedspruit man needs R500 000 after he sustained severe injuries in a horrific car accident on Saturday, May 27.

Trent Collinson (21) has severely broken femurs and has sustained heavy bruising in an accident that took place on the R40 between Three Bridges and Mica. Trent’s father, Francois, has started a Back-a-Buddy account to get help raise funds for an operation at a private hospital. “His mom and I have not been in a position to afford medical aid for many years now, so he was taken to a government hospital.”

He said private hospitals require money upfront. “Day one was R15000 just to get him from the government hospital to a private hospital in Nelspruit. Once he was assessed and it was determined that he would need high care because of the shock to his body from the impact, the hospital expected R70 000 immediately before admitting him to the ward.

The money we are raising is to assist immediately with paying doctors, theatre costs, an anesthetist, blood tests, X-rays, and CT scans. Francois said that he is grateful to those who have already donated. “Any contribution will help and will be used to assist with immediate costs and any recovery period he might need after being discharged. It is going to be a long road going ahead,” Francois said.

“In closing, I want to say that I have realised that the human spirit is incredible, and people genuinely care when you need it most,” he concluded. Some of Trent’s friends set up at a boerewors roll stall to raise funds. By Monday, June 5, the Back-a-Buddy account had raised R 160 280.70.
