Charlotte shines at SAPS golf tourney

Tzaneen golfer, Charlotte Tshuketana, a detective from Nkowankowa, shined at the SAPS National Golf Tournament.

She was part of the Sirdicks team and won the B-division during the National Police Day hosted in Polokwane recently. She was the only female golfer from Limpopo. Her teammates were Riaan de Beer, Larnie Moegamad, and Gierdien Shuaib. They were part of the golf fundraising event which managed to raise R3 million for the South African Police Service Education Trust. The fund gives financial support to learners of deceased SAPS members.

She is currently working at Dorset SAPS but stays in Nkowankowa with her husband and two daughters. Her golfing skills were honed when a former colleague at Nkowankowa Police Station, Norman Mathebula, encouraged her to join the SAPS Limpopo Golf Team. “At that stage I had no clue how to play, but I agreed to learn. He started by teaching me the basics, how to hold the club, which hand to wear the glove on, and what the numbers on the clubs mean,” she explained.

In 2018 she joined the SAPS Limpopo Golf Team as the only female player to take part in a national competition in the Northern Cape. She has represented SAPS in four national competitions and she says she could not be more proud. As a solo player, Thuketana has competed in various other tournaments and encourages women to start playing. She is currently training to play in the upcoming Limpopo Golf Championship which will take place next month at Euphoria Golf Estate in the Waterberg district.
