Happy Boys is back in the race

Giyani Happy Boys looks set to contest the first place in the ABC Motsepe Stream-A League after thrashing Mikhado FC 3-0 in a match played on Saturday in Giyani at the Xikukwani Stadium.

The match started off with both teams attacking from all directions. However, at some point, the visitors looked like they were gaining the upper hand and this sent some shivers down the spines of Giyani Happy Boys’ supporters on the grandstand.  Their fears were evident as they yelled at the players every time their backline was threatened.

The goalkeeper was also not spared and nothing he did pleased the crowd. They hurled insults and threats at him for the slightest mistake. However, that changed when their striker, Blessing Maluleke, scored the first goal which put them in the lead against the visitors just five minutes before the end of the first half. In the second half, Giyani Happy Boys became even more aggressive with the introduction of two of their top goal scorers who were on the bench during the first half.

As predicted, it did not take long before the Happy Boys found the net and increased the score to 2-0 against the visitors. While the visitors were fighting back with hopes of levelling the score, they unwittingly left their backline unguarded and vulnerable. This was a mistake which enabled Sello Molewa, one of the most dangerous strikers in the Giyani Happy Boys arsenal, to score the third goal to sink them to 0-3.

The match ended on 3-0, a boost for Giyani Happy Boys who harbours ambitions to finish at the top of the ABC Motsepe League. Currently the number one team in the league is Mpheni Home Defenders with 24 points out of 9 matches. Before Saturday’s match, Giyani Happy Boys had 23 points with ten matches played, now the boys have 26 points from 11 matches. For them to take the lead, Mpheni Home Defenders has to lose their next two matches, an unlikely event if one takes into consideration that they are a strong team dreaded by many in the league.
