Tzaneen radio station’s staff not paid

The Greater Tzaneen Community radio station, commonly known as GTFM has not paid its staff since December 2014.

This resulted into a number of staff members leaving the station to seek green pastures.

Three presenters who wished to remain anonymous for fear of victimization by management confirmed that indeed they have not been paid since last December.

“Yes I can confirm that we have not been paid and some of my colleagues have left the station because of this” said one presenter.

The Greater Tzaneen Economic Development Agency (GTEDA), Chief Executive Officer Kwena Maphoto, said as GTEDA ,they are aware of the situation at the station.

“We are aware of the problem. Our mandate as GTEDA ended after the establishment of the radio station.

A Board of Directors was appointed after establishing the radio station so I suggest you contact the chairperson to find out exactly what seems to be the problem” said Maphoto.

The station manager, Tebatso Maapola, denied that the staff has not been paid. “As the station manager I am unaware of any employee that has not been paid. It is just people with hidden agendas and why do they want to remain anonymous. If really they have not been paid they would have taken actions against the station to ensure that they get their salaries. All of this is not true” said Maapola.

Attempts to contact the chairperson of Board of Directors of the radio station for comment was unsuccessful at the time of going to press.
