Hans Merensky new owner blocks former owner from accessing the hotel

There seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel with the Hans Merensky Hotel and Spa, Golf Course and Estate debacle.

The new owner of the hotel, Senzo Tsabedze of Indalo Hotels and Leisure and Afrirent Holdings, has won a court interdict on Monday morning which will afford him the opportunity to gain access to his property.
This comes after Tsabedze resorted to blocking the road to the hotel last week with security officers.
The blockade’s objective was to stop the former owner and others to gain access to the facility.

Tsabedze told the Herald that he was left without a choice but to prevent people from entering.
After buying the property for R14 million in November last year, he was refused access to his property.
The former owner turned to the court with interdicts stopping him from using his property.
The businessman, who has a number of hotels in other provinces, says he was further frustrated by the previous owner’s continued utilisation of the facility as her own.

He said that all the proceeds went to her pocket. “We will now move our security inside the estate to prevent anyone from checking in at the hotel, to play golf or going to the spa,” he said.
However, the legal battle for the estate is not yet over as he still has to go get Eskom and PMC to stop supplying the hotel with electricity.
“When we bought the hotel, we had budgeted R200 million to renovate the whole facility, including the hotel school.

“Our aim was to create 200 jobs.
“We had planned to complete renovations within eight months,” he said.
“But because the previous owner is refusing to let go of the hotel amicably, all our plans are on hold.
“The interior is dilapidated and we want to renovate all of it and buy new furniture,” Tzabedze said.
He said he has already spent R1.5 million in legal fees in the last months and the matter still has not been settled.
