Letaba Spring Show promises great entertainment for old and young

The Letaba Show, an agricultural show presented annually by Agri Letaba, is back and this year promises to make up for the two years of the Covid-19 pandemic when it was not possible to host the show.

Despite the many challenges faced by the organisers, they have managed to put together a programme that will entertain and enthrall the old and young. The Letaba Spring Show starts next Wednesday, September 21 until Friday, September 23 at the Showgrounds in Tzaneen.

This year’s Letaba Spring show Film Verse, where poetry and animation meet to display deep and meaningful visual art, will be on display for the duration of the show from 21 to 23 September. Film Verse is an ATKV production to promote African poetry and animation art. An idea pursued by animation artist, Diek Grobler that combines poetry with visual art, animation, music, and often times the voice of the poet to enthrall audiences.

“Animation to me is moving art, visual poetry,” says artistic director of Film Verse 1 and 2, Grobler. These short films and video poems are made by local independent animation artists to showcase South African poetry with soundtracks available in various languages including English, Afrikaans, Sesotho, and IsiZulu. Naomi Excell, Letaba Agri’s organiser of the Letaba Spring Show says: “We have locale to display Film Verse at the Letaba Showgrounds, where we will display these amazing animation films and poetry.

Tours for schools are welcomed.” Some of the featured poets are Adam Small, Joan Hambridge, Boerneef, N.P. van Wyk Louw, Ingrid Jonker, Antjie Krog, Gert Vlok Nel and Breyten Breytenbach to name but a few.
