Local runners conquer the Comrades Marathon

Local runners from various running clubs took on the challenge of the ultimate human race, the Comrades on Sunday.

Letaba Road Runners had nine runners compete in this 90km road race downhill from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.
In his 23rd Comrades, Jabulani Ngobeni crossed the finish line in with 11:18:42 on the clock.
“Eunite Mushwana, Abea Shikwambana and Madala Shitlhangu took on their very first Comrades this year,” says Gilbert Maluleke, secretary of the Letaba Road Runners.

The Letaba Road Runners took on the ultimate human race and completed the Comrades on Sunday.

Shikwambana completed the race with a final time of 10:50:41, Eunite completed the race in 11:53:28 and Shitlhangu crossed the finish line with 11:47:56.
Nyiko Mbhalati collected his second Comrades medal and completed the race in 11:38:07. He crossed the line with Maluleke, who completed his 14th Comrades in a time of 11:39:45.
Webster Mushwana completed his sixth Comrades and crossed the finish line just after the ten hour mark in a time of 11:07:21.

Ernest Mhlongo completed his 13th Comrades in 11:45:08. Emmanuel Mushwana took on his 15th Comrades and crossed the finish line in 11:47:20.
“We are fortunate to be here and grateful to our sponsors but there are more talented athletes from Letaba Road Runners that need assistance for next year’s Comrades,” says Gilbert.

Patrick Mhlongo from Nkowankowa Althletics Club brought home his first Comrades medal and completed the race in 10:08:26.
Makhapule Khosa, also from Nkowankowa Althletics Club, completed the race in 11:21:48.

Risimati Nkuna, Queen Ngobeni, Gracious Ndlovu and Rayneck Mathebula from Giyani Gallopers conquered the Comrades.

The Giyani Gallopers had eleven runners enter the race. Nzama Mavunda completed the race in a sub-10 hour time of 09:15:37. Mishak Makhubele Gijas ran his first Comrades and completed the challenge in 09:36:47.
Nghenani Malwandla crossed the finish line with 09:53:10 on the clock, earning his 22nd Comrades medal.

Themba Masingi completed his very first Comrades this year in a time of 10:08:28. Sizeka Maluleke completed his Comrades marathon in 10:40:19.
Nyiko Ngobeni ran this presigious race in a time of 10:45:50. Gracious Ndlovu and Queen Ngobeni respresented female runners and completed their very first Comrades ultra-marathon in 11:20:12 and 11:49:41, respectively.

Abeah Shikwambana, Gilbert Maluleke, Jabulani Ngobeni and Patrick Mhlongo from Letaba Road Runners.

Risimati Nkuna crossed the finish line with 11:34:09 on the clock and Rayneck Mathebula completed the Comrades in 11:34:21. Josiah Mathebula completed his Comrades in 11:59:54.
