Rufus takes gold and runners enjoy chilly day on Iron Crown trail run

The Haenertsburg Rotary Club presented the Iron Crown trail run on Saturday morning.

Local runners and holiday goers braved the cold morning weather and took on the 5km fun walk through the grasslands as well as the more challenging 10km and 22km trails up to Iron Crown.
Rufus Photo was the first 22km runner over the finish line, taking his second gold medal in this annual event.
“The route was challenging because it has changed since the last time I competed but it was marked well and I enjoyed the training,” said

Photo who is a regular at the Comrades Marathon and has finished in the top ten of this prestigious race three times.
Imogen Popich took first place in the 22km women’s open category followed by Anushka van Rooyen and Karla-Mart Fullard.
Lizelle Lindeque and Rose Cassidy took first and second place in the 22km women’s junior category, respectively.
Frieda Human and Louise van den Dool took the top two spots in the women’s over 40 category and Bronwyn Egan took the top spot on the podium in the over 50 category, followed by Louise van den Dool on the second step.

Alex Weldon won the 22km junior men’s category with Wayne Rambiyana in second place and Erik van den Dool taking third place.
Chrispen Muchemwa took the lead in the men’s open category with Kumbelani Ngende and Allan Gordon in second and third place, respectively.
Photo was the winner of the 22km men’s over 40 category with Gabriel Makwela and Jonathan Trusler in second and third place.
Hennie Spies and Arend Henning took the top spots in the over 50’s category and Jose de Souza and Roco Popich took home prizes in the over 60’s division.

In the 10km race Ruan van Loggerenberg took the first prize in the men’s junior division and Ashleigh Lyons won the women’s junior division.
Isaac Moshio won the 10km open men’s category followed by Elias Ramalepa and Koketjo Gumbo.
Sinothile Mthinyane took first place in the 10km women’s open category with Monique Fourie in second place and Leandra Fredenthal in third place.
Mientjie Els took first place in the 10km women’s over 40 category with Lebo Mohale winning the men’s over 40 category.

Julie Pierce won the women’s over 50 category with Liz Popich in second place. Vincent Goody and Okkie van Niekerk took first and second place in the men’s over 50 category, respectively.
Alex Gordon won the 10km over 60’s division with Chris Noel and Bun Noel taking second and third place, respectively.
