New Greater Tzaneen Municipality Council sworn in

Councillors elect Cassius Machimana and Sonia Ngobeni resigned as councillors before being sworn in

The new council for the Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) was sworn in on Monday, November 22 after an initial date for the ceremony had to be postponed. The new council is made up of 51 ANC members, 9 EFF, 5 DA, 1 VF Plus, 1 AFP and 1 APC. Councillors elect Cassius Machimana and Sonia Ngobeni resigned as councillors before being sworn in and was replaced in a council meeting held on Wednesday, November 24 at Lenyenye Community Hall.

The newly constituted council elected Sanie Muhlavasi Tiba as the new speaker and Gerson Molapisane as mayor with Given Marvin Malatji as the new whip of council. Given Ngwako Maunatlala was appointed the chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC). The ten-member executive committee is made up of of eight ANC members, one EFF and one DA.

They are Gerson Molapisane, Constance Ramothwala, Thabo Maunatlala, Sophy Raganya, Maggy Makwala, Maria Mmola, Richard Shingange, Renny Mabuza, Clifford Letsoalo and René Pohl of the DA. Councillors that are designated as full-time councillors are Thabo Maunatlala (Finance), Richard Shingange (Corporate Services), Conny Ramothwala (Infrastructure) and Sophy Raganya (Planning and Economic Development).

The other full-time councillors are the mayor, speaker, whip and chairperson of the MPAC. Council also elected councillors to serve in the council of Mopani District Municipality. They are the former GTM mayor Maripe Mangena, Collen Stoltz, Judith Mashele, Moore Sarah Baloyi, Willy Maake, Giyani Mkhabele, Conny Motwasethla, Betty Ramoshaba, Clement Ramathoka, Clifford Letsoalo and Lebeus Ramalepe.
