36-year-old man accused of bestiality is granted bail

"Later that day the herdsman went to the sty wanting to feed the pigs when he noticed that one of the pigs was not moving, he also noticed that the pig was bleeding." 

A 36-year-old man from Bochabelo village outside Hoedspruit who was arrested for allegedly raping a pig has been granted R1000 bail by the Hoedspruit Magistrate Court on Wednesday, September 15. 

Hoedspruit police spokesperson Sgt Livhuwani Mulaudzi said the man was charged with bestiality. 

According to Mulaudzi, the incident occurred on Friday, September 3 at about 14:00. “It is alleged that the man was seen at the pigsty during the day by a herdsman who warned the suspect to stay away from the pigsty as he does not work with the pigs,” said Mulaudzi.

She said later that day the herdsman went to the sty wanting to feed the pigs when he noticed that one of the pigs was not moving, he also noticed that the pig was bleeding. 

Mulaudzi told Herald that the man then checked the sty properly and find the tracks of the sandals that the suspect was wearing earlier on. 

“He followed the tracks and they led him to where the suspect is staying and he asked him what had happened to the pig where he allegedly admitted to having contact with the pig.”

She said the matter was reported to the police on Monday, September 6, and he was arrested and charged with bestiality. The matter has been postponed to Monday, October 25.
