‘You don’t need a title and sash to make a difference’

Mr West Rand 2023 wants to encourage everyone to make a difference. 'It does not have to be with money or food, just a bit of motivation, a hug, a smile even a 'good morning' to someone else'

It is official. The new Mr West Rand 2023 is Brandan van Aswegen.

Not only did he walk away with this sought-after title but was he also crowned Mr Charity and Mr Public Choice for the second year in a row. This year, he added the title of Mr Debutant.

Brandan’s journey started in 2022 when he was awarded the title of Mr Krugersdorp 1st prince and that is when he realised he can make a change and work harder. This is exactly what he did this year.

“My first thought was now I can do even more, I can be better, I can expand my platform, I can be seen as Mr West Rand 2023. I can leave a mark, I can lead and be an example for others.”

It is only upward and onwards for Brandan and does he plan on going big?

“I know I can not change the world, but I can make a difference in someone else’s life.”

He called this new title his platform and said that if you have a stable structure you will not fail the bigger dream and greater outcome. His title motivates him and encourages him to be a leader and leave a mark.

As encouragement for others, Brandan said, “Never give up. You don’t need a title to make difference. Just be yourself. No crown or sash determines the strength and capability inside yourself. If you have the motivation strength and support you can achieve your goals.”

He now plans on continuing with his charity work and daily motivations.

“I believe a good deed pays off, no matter the situation.”

While working with many charities he said that had grown close to many of the people involved. Adding that they have big hearts and are trying to make a living but it is tough out there.

“I try and assist as far as possible and try to make life a bit easier for them but one can only do so much “

As Mr West Rand 2023, he wants to encourage everyone to make a difference. It does not have to be with money or food, just a hug or a smile and a ‘good morning’ to someone else might brighten their day and motivate them to try harder and achieve more.

His motto in life is ‘smile and the whole world smiles back at you’.

Lastly, Brandan said he would not change a thing about his journey.

“I have gotten to know many wonderful people. We all worked as one team, we supported each other and I would not have chosen anyone else to work with and enjoy the journey together.”
