A Binder wins again, another big win for SA!

Darryn Binder finally took his first Moto3 win after knocking at the door a few times this year.

Local boy Darryn Binder took his first-ever Moto3 win in Barcelona, Spain on Sunday, 27 September.

“I am really happy to have won in Barcelona. It was super cool to do it there because Barcelona was the place where I scored my first world championship points back in 2016,” Binder said.

He added that it was really nice to get his first victory because he had come so close this year but just hadn’t managed to get the win until Sunday.

The 22-year-old said while growing up their dad, who did a little racing himself round about the time they were born, had always surrounded them with bikes and cars – hence the love of racing.

His racing career started when he asked his dad for a go-cart.

We went to practise and started driving the go-cart, the next thing we started racing. A couple of years down the line we swapped to bikes and I think it was more like a family activity at first – we would go out on the weekend and we would go racing.”

He and his brother, Brad Binder loved racing so much that they never looked back. Today Darryn boasts with a Moto3 win while his brother won the MotoGP a couple of months ago.

Darryn explained that he believed he should always be ready and give his best. Before his recent win he just continued to train as hard as always. He told how he had breakfast with his brother the morning before the race and that he felt confident that day. His plan was to lead the last lap and hopefully he would be able to stay in front, and it paid off.

My focus now after the win hasn’t shifted either – my main goal now is to get good results and that would just set me up better for next year.”

The next race is in Le Mans and he is very excited as Le Mans is his team, CIPmoto’s home race, and he said it would be great to get good results there.

“I will do my best and see what we can do. I really enjoy Le Mans. I have had good races there in the past and it is a track that I really enjoy riding at so I am really looking forward to the upcoming race.”
