The News team was invited to Hoërskool Monument High’s Monnas Kliphard music festival last weekend.

Bands like Tussen Sterre, Saarkie and Spoegwolf performed, and singers Juan Boucher and Joshua na die Reën also took to the stage. The oh-so-funny comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout was the emcee for the festival.

Although I only knew half of the festival’s line-up, we were quickly shown why these bands were so popular among the teens.

My husband and I had quite a laugh when Spoegwolf’s frontman started twirling on stage.

Monnas also hosted Hoërskool Waterkloof from Pretoria that morning, when both schools’ teams met on the rugby field. It was a great afternoon of sporting and musical fun in the heart of Krugersdorp.

Something I feel I need to mention was the sense of community you could feel during both events. From the parents and learners to the guests and players, Krugersdorpers really showed why they are so hospitable.

And during the music festival, the singers expressed their gratitude for Krugersdorp’s warmth and its residents. I felt proud.

Sitting in the cold … yes, it was an open air festival … it did not matter that I couldn’t feel my feet any more. I was just so content to be among my family and my fellow community members.

On behalf of the News team, I would like to thank Monnas for the tickets. It was a superb festival – well-done!

If ever you spot the News team out and about in town, during events or sporting meets, come say hello – we would love to meet you and talk to you.

Until next week, take care, Krugersdorp.
