Why so serious?

I am talking about the middle-aged to much older group of people. Why are you so angry at the world, and why do you chose to take it out on the rest of us on social media?

Don’t get me wrong, there are some highly opinionated young people using social media too, but most of the time those complaining, those questioning others’ methods and those finding something wrong in everything are much older than the average poster. And I find it completely mind-boggling.

I never voice my concerns on Facebook. I use it exactly for what it stands for, a “book of faces”.

To me, the purpose of social media is to see what other people, my friends in this case, do in their social time. I try not to delve too deeply into the personal sagas of other people as they post on social media pages and other platforms, like community forums, but sometimes I am forced to take notice, because the post features everywhere I look.

When thinking about it, it is actually sad. I don’t think Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook, really had that in mind when he though about the concept of what Facebook should be.

Then again, Facebook has evolved into such an important communication tool, it is not really in Zuckerberg’s hands anymore.

Nevertheless, many people have left Facebook for that very reason. There’s too much doom and gloom, and we find it everywhere we look, so much so that we really don’t want it when looking for fun social interactions online.

Do you agree? I would really like to take this discussion further. Leave a comment … you guessed it … on Facebook or send it to me via email at krugersdorpnews@caxton.co.za.

Until next week, keep it light, Krugersdorp.
