Is it just me or did 2018 get here pretty quickly?

Nevertheless, from my team and I, a very happy New Year to each and all of our loyal readers! We truly hope this year will be full of sparkle, success and inner peace.

My 2018 had a rather relaxing start, and to tell the truth, it was wonderful. My husband and I were on our very first Christmas holiday in the almost nine years we’ve been married.

We spent ten wonderful days at a very popular holiday resort in the Waterberg region.

Our days consisted of relaxing by the pool, drinking fruity spirits and eating whatever we could find while often fearing the parents we were surrounded by.

It was actually quite hilarious. We would crack up every time a parent-child situation occurred. In the ten days we were there we realised that being a child in South Africa is quite challenging (in a funny kind of way).

First of all, almost all the children we encountered (from the ages of one to about seven) were ‘threatened’ by their parents on a daily basis. Parents used terms like “if you run off, your bum will burn” or “you are not allowed to go to the pool without me, otherwise you will not swim at all this holiday”. One we particularly liked was, “I am not here for your entertainment, play with your brother or sister, that is why you have them”.

And did the children listen? Most of them didn’t … and left us even more in stitches every time parents go running after their little ones.

Don’t get me wrong – child abuse in South Africa is a huge concern, and I do not condone it. I just want to thank the parents and their children for keeping us entertained.

Here’s to 2018, may we always find the silver lining in the dark clouds.

Until next week, take care Krugersdorp.
