Just when we thought all we hear lately about South Africa is bad … our very own Miss South Africa takes the Miss Universe crown!

Well done, Demi-Leigh! Your win is most certainly each and every South African’s win!

Krugersdorp has seen many beauties vying for the country’s most coveted title. Our very own Shelbe Pretorius made it into the Top 10 of Miss SA 2017 this year. Shelbe expressed her gratitude and congratulations to Demi-Leigh on Facebook and said they were roommates during the judging process of Miss SA.

I couldn’t help but think what a lovely gesture it was from Shelbe to congratulate her roommate on this tremendous win. It made me realise that when our friends and family succeed in life, we in turn feel inspired and of course, celebrate their joy. It’s as if we also played a part in their success.

And then you get the haters. It seems the world can just not accept the decision and needs to lash out and burst the good-vibe bubble that we so desperately need.

A very unhappy “celebrity” from Uganda expressed her dissatisfaction with Demi-Leigh being named the winner and made it quite clear that the show is rigged.

It makes me very sad to see people react like this. People who really cannot see the good, but would do everything in their power to focus on the bad.

Demi-Leigh, you are a remarkable person with beautiful qualities and we can all learn from you.

Congratulations! You make us proud … I just hope we can make you proud too!

The moral of my story? Don’t rain on someone else’s parade … just smile and wave if you have nothing nice to say.

Until next week.
