Let’s all be Arnold Schwarzeneggers

Why should we as South Africans take note of Schwarzenegger's video?

I recently watched a video of Arnold Schwarzenegger blasting Donald Trump for withdrawing the USA from the Paris Climate Deal.

He addresses Trump as a public servant and says his most important job is to protect his people.

In his video he also speaks about very serious issues like water pollution and the number of people who die from it every year.

But why should we as South Africans take note of Schwarzenegger’s video?

What struck me as important is that in Schwarzenegger’s video he says that Trump is aware of the solutions for this problem that were brought before him, yet he chose to withdraw from one of them.

We are not very different from the USA. We also have rivers and dams that are highly polluted and we also sit with a lot of solutions, but no (or very little) action is being taken.

I have to agree with Schwarzenegger for calling Trump out for looking at the past and using what happened then as a reason to make very poor decisions.

No man can change what happened in the past, but every man can help change what is going to happen in the future.

Schwarzenegger addresses a lot of other issues in his video too, but his message about water stuck with me, especially as regards our current water crisis.

Here in Gauteng, we faced one of the worst droughts our province has seen just a few short months ago. Now Cape Town is doing the same.

Yet we are still wasting and unnecessarily polluting water.

When will this stop?

Do we really need someone like Schwarzenegger to tell us to stop?

I don’t think so.

Something to think about, Krugersdorp.
