Editor's note

Do pamphlets still serve a purpose?

After the rude awakening, I was forced to evaluate my situation.

I often zone out when I am driving my car. It’s not something a responsible driver should do and I feel a bit embarrassed to admit it. A driver should be alert and focused at all times!

But, on those rare occasions when all the traffic lights are green, and the radio station I am listening to plays a great song, I can’t help but drift away thinking of carefree moments.

This morning I had such a splendorous moment, until an estate agent tried to bribe me with a Fizzer to take the pamphlet she was handing out.

Do those gimmicks really make a difference?

I never take pamphlets, from anyone. Unless you have a R100 note stuck to it, I will not take it.

After the rude awakening, I was forced to evaluate my situation. I noticed that none of the other motorists around me were taking the pamphlets. While the traffic light was red, I could observe the three agents bickering next to the road.

I am no mind-reader, but their body language suggested that they knew their attempts to bribe motorists were not working.

As I drove off I felt slightly bad for them. They paid – hopefully not a lot of – good money to print those pamphlets and someone probably paid for the Fizzers out of his or her own pocket.

I get that people need fresh ideas to promote their business and that times are tough.

Perhaps you agree with me, perhaps you don’t. I would love to know what you think. Leave your comment in the box below or email me a letter to krugersdorpnews@caxton.co.za.

Let’s discuss this and see if we can understand it better.
