My faith in humanity restored

It was such a beautiful sight to see.

A few days ago, I witnessed something truly remarkable … so much so that my faith in humanity has been restored.

I was on my way to work when I hit a major traffic delay while approaching the weekend robot (the intersection of Barratt and Voortrekker Roads).

I could not really see why we were moving at a snail’s pace. There was no accident, the traffic lights were not out of order. As I got closer to the crossing, I saw what was obstructing the traffic – a woman’s car had a flat tyre, literally in the middle of the road.

And then I saw something that made me feel very warm inside. Something that made my morning all the more worth while.

I saw a white homeless beggar, a black minibus driver and two pedestrians frantically helping the coloured woman change her flat tyre.

Another person was standing near the traffic light, warning on-coming traffic of the obstruction in the road.

It was such a beautiful sight to see.

No-one was mean, no motorists hooted and shouted from their windows and no-one made a scene. Everyone I saw was patient and had sympathy for this woman. But what was truly great to see, was how so many different races, rich or poor, came together to help.

Thank you to those who did, you made me realise that we are all human beings just trying to make it through the day. We breathe the same air and we call the same place our home.

Never give up on people, Krugersdorp, they might just surprise you.

Until next week, take care out there.
