With the matric exams well under way, I would just like to say good luck to each and every Mogale City matriculant who is currently writing the final exams.

With everything that is going on in our country; from the Fees Must Fall protests to the water restrictions, our matrics have a lot on their plates these days.

The youth of South Africa may feel a bit under-appreciated and demotivated with regard to their future. I completely understand if matriculants also feel discouraged about doing their best in their final exams. I mean, why should they give their all when everything else is performing below average these days?

But that is exactly it.

Our matrics should not play the victim card. Instead, they must rise above it and show the country that even though protests, environmental issues and credit crunches are putting a damper on our moods, the class of 2016 will emerge victorious.

They should push for a higher pass rate than before and show a united front. The class of 2016 should prove that even though they are entering tertiary institutions on shaky grounds, they will not stumble and fall.

For the class of 2016 I have only one instruction: Be great!

My advice is to never give up. Don’t just reach for an A, instead reach for the stars. And to those who do not make it, it’s okay. Dust yourself off and try again … because you can. Life is made-up of second chances … it is how we use them that makes the difference.

Until next week, study hard Krugersdorp!
