I just returned from a week long holiday at the South Coast.

It was wonderful, although I feel a week was too short.

While being on holiday, I tried to stay up to date with everything on social media and in the local as well as international news.

But it wasn’t hard switching off after reading a couple of negative headlines.

About three days into my holiday I finally managed to change my thought pattern from “how shocking” to “time for some red wine”.

It made me really sad to realise how long it took to switch off mentally.

The sad reality is our daily lives are invested with negativity in all forms and in order for us to survive, we need to change our mind-sets.

I am not even shy to admit that being a journalist has made me a sceptic, negative and somewhat of a boring person.

I need a change and quite frankly so does my community.

Starting from today I am making it my mission to see the positive in everything I take on even if it means turning a bad situation into good one.

They say a change is as good as a holiday, but perhaps a holiday is something that inspires change?
