The urgent call for help from the South African National Blood Services has me very worried.

The SANBS currently only has 1,7 days’ worth of blood, in stock.

In other words, if a national emergency occurs, within two days there will be no more blood available. Blood that is used in life-threatening circumstances.

By donating blood you instantly become a hero. This selfless act of kindness will be appreciated most by those who truly need it.

I myself am a blood donor and will definitely roll up my sleeve to help get the daily blood supply back to normal.

I know there are many reasons why some people do not donate blood, but as a way of motivation, think about one of your loved ones lying on a hospital bed needing life-saving blood.

A doctor opens the fridge storing the blood, only to find that it’s empty. If your loved one does not receive blood soon, they will die.

You see all of this playing out in front of you, what do you do?

I hope you realise the call to help save a life…and become a permanent blood donor.
