This week only consists of three short working days and then … (wait for it) … another long weekend arrives!

On Friday, 1 May, South Africans will celebrate Worker’s Day.

But what does this particular holiday even mean?

Worker’s Day celebrates the role played by Trade Unions, the Communist Party and other labour movements in the struggle against Apartheid.

May Day, as we know it refers to various socialist and labour movement celebrations conducted on 1 May. May Day was born from the industrial struggle for an eight-hour day.

There is quite a fascinating history behind Worker’s Day and be sure to read up on it by clicking here.

I will be celebrating Worker’s Day by doing exactly that … working. Working in my house of course, doing laundry, a bit of cleaning and hopefully relaxing later on.

Happy Worker’s Day Krugersdorp. You earned it!
