Warrior Race gets the blood pumping in Muldersdrift

Almost 7 000 residents challenged their bodies at the Virgin Active Warrior Race recently.

The adventurous sporting community gathered at Syringa Park in Muldersdrift on September 28 for a muddy and intense Virgin Active Warrior Race.

Co-ordinator of the race, JP Nortje, said this was the biggest race of its kind since the Covid-19 pandemic with about 7 000 athletes and spectators taking part.

Pieter Kruger sprints toward the finish line.

“This was an obstacle course race with three categories including rookie, commando and black ops. The rookie category was for people seeking fun, the commando was a bit more challenging, and the black ops was for elite participants, where it had an R10 000 cash prize for its respective winners,” JP explained.

He continued that the three categories had different lengths (5km, 10km and 15km) not to mention various obstacles.

Participants crawl through the mud.

“The main goal of the race was to get people out of their comfort zone and out of the TV rooms, challenge their bodies and get them fit. We wanted to combine team building and motivation,” JP concluded.

As the Krugersdorp News attended the race, athletes were covered in sweat and mud when they eventually crossed the finish line. There were team-building exercises to keep the blood pumping and get them ready to take part in this challenging race.
