Good Samaritans take a swing for children’s home

Bethany House Trust hosted a successful golf day to raise funds for the vulnerable.

Many golfers gathered at the Krugersdorp Golf Club, swinging and putting for charity.

The Bethany House Trust (BHT) does all it can to support the vulnerable, but this time they were the recipients of some much-needed support and funds at their golf day fundraiser on Thursday, 29 August.

BHT is a trust that operates two child and youth care centres (children’s homes), a shelter for men, offers Victim Empowerment programmes at schools and also presents an alternative dispute resolution programme.

BHT CEO Gert Jonker says the Gauteng Department of Social Development provides financial support for some of BHT’s programmes. However, government support is insufficient to ensure that the trust can function optimally.

“Annually the Friends of Bethany House Trust facilitates a golf day at the Krugersdorp Golf Club to augment the finances of the trust, to enable us to continue serving the needs of the most vulnerable in our society. This year, we hosted a very successful golf day once again. The generous support from the players ensured that we could make a meaningful contribution towards the operational costs of Bethany House Trust,” Gert said.

Gert thanked the players for supporting this ‘homegrown’ charity which for the last 27 years, served thousands of vulnerable citizens, mostly children.

“’Together we can’ is our mantra. Together we can make South Africa a better place for all of us to live and work in. Together we can make sure our kids are safe. Together we can ensure a brighter future. Thank you for helping us to help the beneficiaries we serve in our programmes,” Gert concluded.
