Punching above his weight

The experienced Captain Charisma has no desire to quit boxing just yet, and will fight for the vacant WBA African Title in Namibia soon.

Kagiso’s finest boxer hopes to make Mogale City proud yet again with another title on the line in neighbouring Namibia.

Thato Bonokoane goes by the ring name ‘Captain Charisma’ due to his flair and finesse. He has been boxing for a decade and despite having a few milestones under his belt, he is hungry for more success.

On August 17, Thato will be fighting for the vacant WBA African Title (featherweight division) in Windhoek. The fight will be a 10-round bout.

“I want to win more titles. I just enjoy working hard and will do whatever exercise comes my way or what my coach throws at me, this includes cardiovascular exercises, strength training, a mitts workout, sparring, and punching bags. At the end of the day, one has to be in tip-top shape, to say the least. I’ve been doing this for many years and want to push myself,” he said.

Some of his major accomplishments include:

• Former WBF All-Africa Champion
• Former WBF Intercontinental Champion
• 2022 WBF Boxer of the Year
• Competed in Russia for the WBO GLOBAL belt
• Competed in the Eastern Cape for the ABU SADC African title (featherweight division)

To add, Thato is currently ranked among the top 100 boxers in the country.
