Young gymnasts reach their summit

Summit Gymnastics Club is over the moon after their youngsters achieved great results at the top level.

Many Summit Gymnastics Club youngsters between the ages of six and 13 impressed in various disciplines this year.

According to coach Lauren Perry, these gymnasts first competed in the Central Gauteng District competition where they progressed to provincials and finally the Zone Competition.

“The Zone Competition is the mini SA’s for children that are too young to go to compete at a national level and the furthest they can go at their age. The girls had to score gold at the district or provincial competitions, whereas the boys had to get gold or silver to receive their half colours. They competed against numerous provinces, including all the Gauteng districts, Mpumalanga and Limpopo,” Lauren said.

Teagan Kilian, Eliska Geldenhuys, Mia van Zyl, Megan Pombo, Charne Pretorius, Kristen Krog and Elaina Bleeker on the beam.

She continued the girls competed in many disciplines from floor, beam, bar and vault while the boys took part in the floor, parallel bar, low bar and vault disciplines.

Lauren added proudly they had a total of 12 girls and three boys who received their Central Gauteng half colours.

“All our gymnasts qualified to compete at the zone competition where they got 15 gold, nine silver and six bronze medals,” she added.

“One of our boys, Jaans Kok scored a perfect 10 on the parallel bar, which is an amazing achievement. I am very proud of all our gymnasts, and have big dreams for them,” she concluded.
