On point and one of SA’s best in clay shooting

Compak SA competitors receive Protea colours.

ProShot Adventures’ Clay Pigeon Shooting boasts five members with either Protea or Compak SA colours.

The sport is designed to attract the top shooters in the world but also to make it a sport where shooters of all levels of competence can participate and for those who want to achieve the highest accolades the opportunity exists. The discipline of Compak Sporting involves the shooting of clay targets in flight (free-flying clays) of which the trajectories resemble the flight of natural feather and fur hunting prey under natural hunting conditions.

According to Compak SA’s official website, in September 2005, Compak SA was specifically established to promote the clay target shooting discipline of Compak Sporting Clays, as promoted by and in line with the rules laid down by the Federation Internationale De Tir Aux Armes Sportives De Chasse (FITASC), which is based in Paris, France.

ProShot’s three members with Compak SA colours are Arie Visagie, and husband and wife, Johan and Jeanne Eloff. The two members who received their Protea colours are the father-son duo, Brett and Connor Padoa, where in 2023 it was determined that they would receive their colours.

“Connor was the first to know he was now a Protea. I was super emotional when I heard Connor had made Protea. He worked very hard the past year to get his colours and finish as second second-best junior in the country. I only found out about a month later that I had also made it and I was over the moon. I’m so happy that both of us will be made Proteas on the same day,” Brett said.

Brett added there are 12 competitions during the year taking place over weekends.

As the Krugersdorp News visited a training session on a freezing Saturday morning, Brett, Arie and Connor were on point with their shooting, missing only a few shots. The sport is way more difficult than it seems as the clays fly from all directions, not like with regular clay pigeon shooting.

“Me and my son will be going to Hungary in August for the Compak World Championships. We will be receiving our Protea blazers soon,” Brett concluded.
