The Blue Swan Netball Club is fully committed to helping its members fulfil their netball aspirations.
The club, based in Kagiso, primarily caters for disadvantaged players. It encourages players to make friends, keeps their minds positive and helps them garner a love for netball, says Ashley Mabasa, chairperson of the club.
The club was founded earlier this year with 10 players that form part of an open team, with nine team members between the age groups of U11, U12 and U15. The biggest problem that the club faces is the shortage of funding since the team cannot afford equipment, transport and attire. They also do not have access to proper training courts, which makes it difficult for them to train. They always walk to games they can attend, due to transport money being an issue.
Luckily the team is part of the Mogale City Netball Association, where they have been provided kits to the senior players of the team.
“We are very thankful for the association that helped us to get the blue attire with bibs showing our positions on the court,” Ashley said.
The coaches and managers are also involved because of their love of netball, and assist at the club as volunteers, and do not expect payment.
