Netball talent on display at KHS Best of the West Festival

Close to 3 000 girls from various schools around Johannesburg made their way to KHS to showcase their sporting talent at this year's Best of the West Festival.

More than 2 600 girls packed the netball courts and hockey fields at Krugersdorp High School (KHS) during the annual Best of the West Festival held last month.

Eleven netball courts were played on by the primary school learners, nine netball courts for the high school and 22 teams played on the Henry Harman Astro Hockey Turf.

According to KHS marketing director Lauren Jooste-Coetsee, the event has become a favoured sporting weekend for many schools in and around Gauteng to kick off their winter sporting season.

“As the event is a festival, the focus is not on the result, but rather an opportunity to identify the best team combinations for the season ahead. The netball committee added a unique component to the event – an umpires mentor programme, allowing for up-and-coming netball coaches and umpires to be mentored by seasoned umpires as they prepare for their grading in the next couple of weeks.

“It is events such as these, that once again show the commitment to the development of the sporting community in the province. We wish all the participating teams of the festivals all the best as they progress into their season ahead.”

KHS will also take part in the all-sports Best of the West Easter festival which will take place from March 28 to April 1.
