Monnas geared for Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival

Hoërskool Monument will be looking to repeat what they achieved in 2023 when this year's Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival kicks off at the end of March.

Supporters of fast-paced schoolboy rugby can look forward to this year’s Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival (KERF) with Hoërskool Monument looking to dominate yet again as they did in 2023.

The 2024 festival will showcase 14 highly-rated 1st XV high school teams, as well as an inaugural primary schools’ festival, over the three play days on March 28, March 30 and April 1.

Monnas is scheduled to play Hoërskool Framesby on Saturday and Westville Boys High on Monday. In 2023, Monnas was one of three schools unbeaten with victories over Framesby (28–7), Hoërskool Noord-Kaap (50–5) and Dale College (41–5). Ceano Everson (Monument’s scrum half) was also named player of the tournament.

Not only does schoolboy rugby play an invaluable role in the development of South Africa’s rugby culture, but it also instils the values of sportsmanship, teamwork, resilience and respect in young players.

Durban High School, Glenwood, Westville and hosts Kearsney College will again represent KZN at this 15th KERF.

The organisers are excited to welcome newcomers Hoërskool Rustenburg from North-West, Rondebosch Boys’ High from Cape Town and Pearson High School from Port Elizabeth.

Other participating schools are Boksburg’s Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen, Worcester Gimnasium from the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape’s Nico Malan High School (Humansdorp), Framesby (Gqeberha), Hoër Landbouskool Marlow (Cradock) and Noord-Kaap (Kimberley).

Fast-paced schoolboy rugby provides spectators with a display of uninhibited passion which is sometimes lost at higher levels of the game, with many of the young players forming lifelong friendships and rivalries over the weekend.

The family-friendly festival takes place on Kearsney’s beautiful campus in Botha’s Hill between Durban and Pietermaritzburg.

Fixtures are available on www.kearsney.com and, for those unable to attend the festival, it will be live-streamed on the SuperSport Schools app.
