KHS’ Logan dreams of becoming a Springbok

Logan Adam, a Grade 10 learner from KHS, recently played rugby in Spain and is well on his way to greatness.

Krugersdorp High School (KHS) is well-known for producing talented young athletes and Grade 10 learner Logan Adam is the latest from the school to reach new heights in sport.

Logan recently went on a rugby tour to Spain to play for the South African Barbarians and describes it as a challenging time. Despite the challenge, he still has his eyes fixed on the prize and hopes to achieve greatness.

“The tour was a great opportunity to provide options for my future in rugby and academics. I had the privilege to be coached by professional coaches with international experience.”

Most notably, Logan was scouted during Hansie Week, an inaugural Rugby tournament held between March and April every year. The tournament features over 92 school rugby teams that compete for the bragging rights in school rugby.

Logan also had the privilege of representing Compcare Rugby Travel Academy playing for RSA Barbarians. According to the academy’s website, the Compcare Rugby Travel Academy is the only full-time programme of study with a professional rugby programme in South Africa that focuses on finding opportunities for young, hungry and talented rugby players abroad.

Upon completion of this programme, players will receive a SAQA-accredited national certificate in Sports Management, a Level 1 World Rugby coaching certificate and a Boksmart certificate. Players will be equipped and trained in a high-performance setup according to the high demands of being a successful professional rugby player abroad.

Apart from developing himself as a player, Logan describes his rugby journey as an honour as he had the opportunity to explore other parts of the world.

“It was an amazing experience to witness different cultures as well as different surroundings and spend time with people from several diverse countries and backgrounds. It opened my eyes to new opportunities worldwide,” Logan said.

For Logan, this programme was just the tip of the iceberg as he has several other accomplishments on his resume despite being just 16 years old.

“I’ve been very lucky to have been capped twice for the Gauteng Lions invitational team and was selected to play in the West Rand Sonchini team in 2022. From there I was chosen to travel to Italy as part of the Gauteng team in the Tricolour Games with the Department of Education. Achieving my Gauteng provincial colours, and being awarded best forward player of the year was great. Of course, having to travel to Spain recently … I feel chuffed.”

His future aspirations include studying veterinary science and wearing the Springbok jersey.

“I’ve had to learn how to manage my time between study and training to stay in peak condition. Rugby is my passion and it’s been worth every hour of training. My stress load is made a lot lighter having amazing support from the school as well as my coach and mentor, Mr Sandile Dlamini,” Logan concluded.
