Fitness session in Kagiso all for a good cause

Healthy Lifestyle Fitness Club held a gym session to raise funds for vulnerable girls.

Fitness and charity went hand-in-hand during an awareness event for physical and mental well-being in Azaadville on September 9.

Residents of Kagiso came out in full force and more than 100 people enjoyed a day full of energy and excitement – all for a good cause.

According to Mogomotsi Phasha, a fitness instructor, the day was to not only celebrate the first anniversary of the Healthy Lifestyle Fitness Club but also serve as a fundraiser for vulnerable women and girls who do not have access to sanitary products.

The fitness club was founded in June 2022 and although established just recently, it has grown from strength to strength, promoting a healthy lifestyle among the community ever since. The club also engages with various non-profit organisations to help vulnerable children in the community and is involved in many community outreach projects.

Mogomotsi was proud of the overall turnout of community members who came to partake in what was a two-hour fitness session.

“Many people in Kagiso have a difficult time exercising and getting healthy because there are very few gyms and many do not want to travel out of town because it is costly. We are raising funds to assist those without transport and we hope to raise funds to also assist women and girls of Kagiso.”

He said the fitness session participants took part in would involve a variety of different exercises from push-ups, squats, sit-ups and jogging. Many would break a sweat throughout the day and would eventually end it off with some fun Zumba exercises.

Another instructor Tumelo Mokete expressed his satisfaction with the support.

“I train many clients and have become aware that many young girls tend to be conscious about their bodies. We not only want to help them by raising funds to provide them with sanitary products but we also hope to boost their confidence in the way they look,” Tumelo said.

After the fitness session, many were awarded trophies at the prizegiving.
