Dan Pienaarville team is producing stars

Most of the women still have jobs or go to school, they travel from far to practise every Friday, and even then they do not have all the equipment or the space to practise.

The Nicko Taurus Football Academy’s women’s soccer team has not only proven from the start that they are a team to be reckoned with; they have also produced world-class players, and all this without the necessary support.

Nick Taurus started the women’s soccer club in 2015 after training an U/13 boys team. He said he realised the women were much more disciplined.

They wanted to learn and are hard workers. Most of them were doing the wrong things so I decided to start the team,” Taurus said.

The girls who play in the team are between the ages of 17 and 25 and live in Munsieville and Kagiso. Taurus said although the girls did not know a lot about the game when they started in 2015, and they had to play against tough teams in the Regional League, the team won their division.

They had set themselves the goal to be promoted to the Sasol Gauteng Women’s League before 2020, which they managed to do in their first year. Their goal now is to move up to the Hollywoodbets Super League by 2025.

This year their team finished seventh in the Sasol League but Taurus is convinced that next year will be their year.

What makes this team so special is not only their achievements but the fact that most of the women still have jobs or go to school, they travel from far to practise every Friday, and even then they do not have all the equipment or the space to practise. This team has been getting by on their own, without any form of funding, for the past five years.

During that time they have produced seven Super League and one Banyana Banyana player.

The Holywoodbets Super League players are Bongiswa Magcwebeba who plays for Thunderbirds, Nikiwe Mashego who plays for the University of Johannesburg, Kedibone Mathambo who plays for the Golden Ladies, Pride Nthite who plays for the Coal City Wizards and Banyana Banyana, Lindokuhle Lukhele who plays for Coal City Wizards, Relebogile Mohlokoane who plays for the Coal City Wizards, Liza Mokoena who plays for the Coal City Wizards and Asive Mqwala who plays for the Tsunami Queens.

The team are Phindile Mbokoda, Katlego Motsitsi, Tokelo Manamela, Kgaogelo Makgakga, Eustance Malebe and Mmake Sibiya. In the back are Nick Taurus, Masingita Mongwe, Ntombifuthi Nkosi, Porcia Mookodi, Mita Molokela and Deborah Kibangu.

The academy is in desperate need of a training facility; transport to and from training and matches; training and playing equipment; food and refreshments; and sanitary pads to enable the ladies to attend every practice and match.
