Soccer tournament for U/14s a rip-roaring success

The previous two annual tournaments were cancelled due to Covid.

Councillor Kagiso Lekagane once again hosted his annual U/14 soccer tournament at the Chief Mogale grounds in Kagiso on Saturday, July 23.

Lekagane started the tournament in 2017 with the aim of getting young men off the streets and away from illicit substances. Unfortunately, the tournament could not be held in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Over and above bragging rights, the winning team received a trophy, gold medals, a full kit, and two soccer balls, while the runners-up received silver medals and two soccer balls for each team. The four teams Lekagane chose to take part this year were Lwazi FC, Black City FC, Moss Creations FC and Kagiso Classics FC.

The overall winner was Kagiso Classics FC (coached by Njabulo Masike) and the runner-up was Moss Creations FC (coached by Lwando Moss). Kagiso Classics FC beat their opponents with penalties after the final score was 1–1. The Man of the Match trophy was awarded to Nkosinathi Mokua of Moss Creations FC
