Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream

Colin van Heerden and Keith Smith have qualified to do the Grade Hansa Fish River marathon.

Colin van Heerden and Keith Smith needed the points from the 64km two-day river race from Reitz to Tweeling, hosted by the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club, to qualify to participate in the Grade A Hansa Fish River marathon. Their finish, in a time of five hours and 50 minutes, secured them the points they needed.

The weather in the Free State cooperated with the paddlers and the race, sponsored by Eurosteel, took place in superb conditions.

The river flows well as water is pumped from the Lesotho Highlands Project to the Vaal Dam, and there are enormously enjoyable fun wave-trains around corners for the paddlers to enjoy their buildup of stamina and gain good seeding for the upcoming Hansa Fish River Canoe Marathon, which takes place during the first weekend of October in Cradock.
