[WATCH] Burpee queen heads for the record books

Mirror, mirror on the wall ... who's the fittest of them all?

Meet Krugersdorp’s, and possibly the world’s, Burpee queen, who recently qualified to compete for her spot in the Guinness World Book of Records.

Local trainer Princess Susan Fourie has yet again pushed herself to the limit by qualifying in the Burpee Fit Challenge on 24 June.

It was lights, camera, action as she worked out for five-and-a-half hours, in order to prove her fitness and endurance for the challenge. The aim of the challenge was to demonstrate how many exercises she could combine with a burpee. On the day, she did a total of 175 different exercises, which added up to 1 537 reps.

This outstanding workout day, which was filmed at two different locations – the Aroeka Heath and Fitness Gym and the Ruimsig Athletics Stadium – ensured Princess the opportunity of a lifetime in the great book of records.

Once the demonstration video is submitted to the Guinness World Book of Records, the team will respond and visit the burpee queen at her gym in approximately 12 weeks time.

The exercise that was most fun for Princess was the Hurdle Burpee exercise, which entails running the hurdles and doing burpees in between. Another favourite was the Speedball Burpee exercise.

“But”, said Princess, “the push-ups got my biceps burning, even after hours of training”.

The most difficult exercise of the day was the Push-Up Bulgarian Burpee paired with a Pistol (better known as a one-leg lunge).

Burpees are Princess Susan Fourie's speciality.

“It was quite an overwhelming moment when I finished the challenge, especially since I was off sick for weeks prior to the challenge. The undying support I get from from my husband, Prince Chris Fourie, and my best friend, Natalie van Zijl, was what pulled me through the challenge. Thank you so much to all my special Aroeke clients who popped in to show their support.”

Princess lives by the quote “Winners never quit and quitters never win”. It’s her secret to never giving up.
