Couragous paddlers awarded

Congratulations to all the deserving winners.

Krugersdorp-based paddlers Warren Mackenzie and James Baard won the award for Skrik vir niks at the recent Florida Lake Canoe Club awards event.

Having taken on challenges other club members thought they were not suitably prepared for, Warren and James proved their courage would not be daunted by the challenges of the river.

The event took place at The Rusty Hook where Shaun Maphanga was acknowledged widely as the club and West Rand’s top paddler overall for the past season, with Monique Steven the first K1 woman’s finisher of the gruelling 2015 Dusi event in the history of the club. The two shared a number of trophies as top male and female paddler for the past year.

Liam Whitlow and Ryan Coutts, also from Krugersdorp, were nominated for a number of awards including best novices; however as K2 paddlers in a K1 year they lost out on the prize – but they did gain much ground and enjoyment on the river during the past year as friends taking on challenges together.

Congratulations to all the deserving winners.
