Local brothers make it big internationally

Two brothers from Magaliesburg claim international motorcross titles and are ready for more.

Marcus and Nicholas Phelps – 14 and 16 years old respectively – are taking the British and American motocross scene by storm one title at a time.

The brothers, along with their mother Claudine relocated to the United Kingdom from Magaliesburg to help pursue their motocross dreams. They have participated in this year’s UK Arena Cross Championship, the Britsh Youth and the British MX Nationals series.

Marcus took no prisoners in the championship and walked away with the Big Wheeled 85cc title by a margin of two points in a competitive seven round series, which stretched from the Odyssey Arena to the London Wembley Arena earlier in March.

Nicolas, the older brother, walked away with a well-deserved fifth place overall in the 125cc championship.

Experiencing some difficulty in the competition as many racers do, Marcus finished fourth overall in the British Youth Series and second overall in the MX Nationals.

Nicholas finished fifth in his category in the British Youth Series.

After a well-deserved but short visit to family in South Africa the boys travelled to the USA to compete in the AMA Motorcross racing series.

Marcus lead both the Pro-Mini classes of the series with Nicholas claiming a fifth and second place after moving up to the 250cc category.

“Without the help of local and overseas sponsors, none of this would be possible. A great thank you goes to KTM, Thor Clothing, Shoei Helmets, P&H Motorcycles and Morris Lubricants for all the help and assistance. We are hoping that our boys will prove to the men that they are a force to be reckoned with and bring back more international trophies to Magaliesburg,” said their proud father Matthew.
