Perp appears in court on Valentine’s Day

He pointed the firearm at the complainant's friend and threatened to shoot him.

A 28-year-old suspect made a brief appearance in court on Valentine’s Day after allegedly being found in possession of a firearm 10 days prior to his appearance.

It is believed the suspect was arrested on Monday, 13 February at about 7am for the unlawful possession of a firearm and pointing of a firearm in Kagiso.

The suspect had confronted the complainant at a tavern 10 days earlier, at about 11pm. The complainant was sitting inside a light delivery vehicle with his friends when the suspect appeared and started to push one of the complainant’s friends around. The suspect allegedly threatened to shoot the friend with the firearm he was carrying, and pointed it at him.

A group of people approached the suspect and confronted him. They then attacked, overpowered and disarmed the suspect on the scene. He managed to free himself from the group and fled the scene. The complainant informed the Kagiso Police about the incident.

The suspect was traced and eventually apprehended. He was detained at the Kagiso Police station where a case docket of possession and pointing of a firearm was opened.
